Second, just as our language and culture is steeped in the Bible, so too is our politics.
From human rights and equality to our constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy…
…from the role of the church in the first forms of welfare provision, to the many modern day faith-led social action projects…
…the Bible has been a spur to action for people of faith throughout history, and it remains so today.
Third, we are a Christian country.
And we should not be afraid to say so.
Let me be clear: I am not in any way saying that to have another faith – or no faith – is somehow wrong.I know and fully respect that many people in this country do not have a religion.
And I am also incredibly proud that Britain is home to many different faith communities, who do so much to make our country stronger.
But what I am saying is that the Bible has helped to give Britain a set of values and morals which make Britain what it is today.
Values and morals we should actively stand up and defend.
The alternative of moral neutrality should not be an option.http://www.number10.gov.uk/news/king-james-bible/
From David Cameron’s speech at the 400th anniversery of the King James Bible.
Some of this is utterly wrong… but hey, it’s coming from Cameron, so maybe that’s not surprising.
Language, culture and politics steeped in biblical stuff. Oh yes. That’s correct enough.
But…. human rights? Def not a Christian invention. Equality? Hah! Don’t make me laugh! Democracy? Def not a Christian invention. Parliamentary democracy specifically? LMAO please. Constitutional monarchy? Hmmmm, well, Christian alright - maybe, but def not biblical.
Also: the Bible being a spur to action for people of faith throughout history? Uhm no? The Bible has been a spur to action for people of the BIBLICAL faiths for as long as the Bible has existed and in the regions where the Bible has been known. The notion “people of faith” also includes people of OTHER faiths. The idea that Christianity is THE faith is so offensive it’s not even funny. And the idea that history only includes and encompasses stuff that has involved the Bible is so ignorant it actually hurts my brain to read it. He needs to demand his tuition back.
And his fake acknowledgement of other religions existing rings SO hollow when he follows it up with saying that the only alternative to biblical morals and values is “moral neutrality” whateverthefuck that is (though it’s quite clear he intends it to be something horribly negative and bad).
Grrrrr, why do some politicians insist on mixing politics and religion? Why? Ugh…
